About Tanzania

Tanzania is located on the eastern coast of Central Africa and is one of the safest countries on the continent. The country has a lot of diversity, with over 120 tribes. These tribes are respected by the Tanzanian government, which has created various measures to honor and preserve each of their cultures. Tanzania also boasts one of the most incredible wildlife populations in all of Africa. It has several national parks, like Ngorongoro and Serengeti.

In Ngorongoro National Park, you'll also find the largest crater in the world, which is home to the largest lion population globally, along with other animals like zebras and elephants. Besides the national parks, there are several lakes, with the most famous being Lake Tanganyika, Lake Manyara, and Lake Victoria. On another note, Tanzania is well-known for Mount Kilimanjaro, which has been inactive for over 200 years. The official language of Tanzania is Swahili, but over 120 languages or dialects are spoken in the country. Swahili has a strong influence from English, Arabic, and Portuguese.

Short term projects.

While we build the new orphanage and school, we have several projects to complete in our current home. One of the most important projects would be to get an electricity generator. In Tanzania, there's a serious issue with electricity because it depends on rainfall. The rainiest months in the country are April and May (long rains) and November and December (short rains). However, due to global warming, the rain is becoming increasingly scarce, and we frequently experience power outages.

During the rainy season, the electricity goes out for about 5 hours, sometimes even up to 8, although not every day. However, during dry spells, it can be out for up to 2 days. So, having a generator is really important for when the power cuts happen. Another project we're considering is buying a washing machine. In Tanzania, they wash clothes by hand, and with 24 kids and only a couple of hands to do the laundry, it turns into a multi-day job. That's why we’d like to get a washing machine so we have more time to spend with the kids at the orphanage. Besides those two projects, we also have some smaller ones in mind, like building cabinets for the kids to store their clothes or fixing the floors and ceilings in the school.

Important Information

In addition, Manyara National Park is very close by, so you can enjoy a safari and see the animals. You can also take a stroll through the plantations in the village or head to the viewpoint, where you'll be able to see the entire national park and the lake.
